Lisa Nakamichi, known for her beautiful performances of Mozart has been called Òborn to play MozartÓ by Honolulu Advertiser critic on her concerto performance of Mozart Piano Concerto No. 23 K. 488.
Lisa Nakamichi has appeared in numerous recitals in major cities of the U.S., Canada and Japan. In 1989, Ms. Nakamichi made an honorable appearance at the residence of the Consul General of Japan in Honolulu, presented by the Japanese government. Upon her successful solo debut recital in Tokyo in 1995, sponsored by the Japanese Ministry of Culture, Ms. Nakamichi has appeared in concerto performances throughout Japan and Hawaii including the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra in Honolulu, the New Star Japan Philharmonic in Tokyo, the Kyushu Philharmonic in Nagasaki, and the Kyoto Symphony in Kyoto. Her concerto performance of the Mozart Concerto No. 21 K. 467 with the Hiroshima Symphony was reviewed in the Chugoku Newspaper as Òbrilliant Mozart playingÓ bringing Ms. Nakamichi high acclaims as one of the leading young pianists in Japan. Most recent review of her concerto performance last year with the Honolulu Symphony of Mozart Concerto No. 23 K. 488 was reviewed in the Honolulu Advertiser as Òabove all beautifulÓ.
Ms. Nakamichi has collaborated with the Hawaii Youth Symphony in a performance of GershwinÕs Rhapsody in Blue, celebrating Louis VuittonÕs 150th Anniversary concert. She has also appeared in Iolani SchoolÕs Winter Concert where she performed the 1st Beethoven Piano Concerto at Mamiya Theater. Her European debut in Vienna, Austria sponsored by the Japanese-Austrian Society was a tremendous success, where she performed at the historical Eroica Saal.
A prizewinner of many national and international competitions, Ms. Nakamichi was awarded first prize in the Young Keyboard ArtistsÕ Association in Michigan, The Japanese-American Society Music Competition in New York and the ABC Music Awards in Osaka, among many others. While at The Juilliard School, she was a recipient of the prestigious William Petzchek Scholarship.
Lisa Nakamichi studied with Ellen Masaki in Honolulu and continued her studies at The Juilliard School in New York City where she received her BachelorÕs and MasterÕs degrees under the tutelage of Martin Canin. Her doctoral degree was awarded from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
LisaÕs first CD ÒMOZARTIMEÓ was released in October 2004 and was awarded ÒBest Classical Music Album of the YearÓ from the Hawaii Music Awards in April 2005.
