Any teachers are eligible to enter their student(s) regardless of musical membership.

SELECTED REPERTOIRE:
|
Performance order of works is left to the contestantfs discretion at the competition.
All appropriate information must be included in the application for each work listed:
-
Title of the work, with catalog (K., L, etc.) or opus number, key, and tempo markings.
-
Movement number and tempo markings for larger pieces (sonatina, sonata, suite, etc.).
-
The performance time for each work and each individual movement within works.
-
ComposerÕs last name and historical style period.
-
All pieces must be performed by memory and in their original form. No cuts or editing are
allowed to the works performed. No repeats but D.C. and D.S. must be included.

REGULATIONS:
|

Repertoire changes are permitted only in cases where the Festival Director is notified in writing one month before the competition date, May 14, 2008.
-
Performance which exceed the specified time limit may be interrupted by the Judges.
-
All decisions are final and judges will have the right to honor ties.
-
Entrants must submit scores of all pieces performed (photocopies allowed) labeled with post-its.

OTHER INFORMATION:

The teacher will be notified of the performance times for their students by email.
-
Practice/warm-up rooms will be available on the day of the competition.
-
Videotaping are allowed during the competition if the taping is not distracting. There will be no videotaping or recording of any kind for the winner's performance and awards ceremony at the Aloha Finale! Piano Ensemble Extravaganza on Sunday, June 15, 2008.

REPERTOIRE REQUIREMENTS
|
|
Level A Up to age 8 Performance time: 6 minutes
|
|
Piece(s) by baroque or classical periods. Another piece by a composer of a different period other than baroque or classical.
|
|
Level B Age 9 - 11 Performance time: 10 minutes
|
Any Bach or 1st or 3rd movement of a Classical Sonata or
1st or 3rd movement of a Sonatine by Clementi, Kuhlau or Biehl.
and
Romantic piece and Impressionistic or Contemporary piece.
|
|
Junior Level Age 12 - 14 Performance time: 20 minutes
|
4 pieces representing the following periods:
Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionistic or Contemporary.
(One movement is allowed for sonatas)

|
High School Age 15 - 18 Performance time: 25 minutes
|
1. Bach Prelude & Fugue (WTC Book I or II) or another work containing a fugue. No transcriptions permitted.
2. An etude by Chopin, Liszt, Debussy, Scriabin or Rachmaninov.
3. Any 1 or more pieces (other than an etude) representing the classical, romantic, impressionistic or contemporary periods.

Young Artists Age 19 - 25. Performance time: 30 minutes
|
1. Bach Prelude & Fugue (WTC Book I or II) or another work containing a fugue. No transcriptions permitted.
2. An etude by Chopin, Liszt, Debussy, Scriabin or Rachmaninov.
3. A classical sonata (one or more movements are allowed).
4. A major work representing the romantic, impressionistic or contemporary periods.

PRIZES
|
Select first prize winners will perform in the Aloha Finale! Piano Ensemble Extravaganza on Sunday, June 15, 2008 with faculty/guest pianists of the Aloha International Piano Festival at Liliu Theater, Convention Center. All other winners must also be present at the same venue to receive their awards at the Awards Ceremony. Performances will only be given by select first prize winners.
First prize winners of Level B through Young Artists divisions will receive a full scholarship to attend the 2009 Aloha International Piano Festival (a value of $500).
One (1) special award of $1,000 will be given to the most outstanding gkamaainah student for students competing in the high school and young artists level.
One (1) special award of $1,000 will be given to the most outstanding ginternationalh student (includes mainland U.S.) for students competing in the high school and young artists level.
